Is ozone therapy approved by the FDA?
No. The FDA has not approved ozone for medical use, and has stated that ozone is a toxic gas with no known useful medical application in a general sense. It is nonetheless used clinically in several countries and by some practitioners here, and there is a research literature behind that use. You are entitled to that full picture rather than half of it, and it is discussed openly at consultation so the decision is genuinely yours.
Is it safe?
Safety depends heavily on the route, the concentration and proper screening, which is why it is administered by a physician rather than in a spa setting. Ozone must never be inhaled directly. The specific contraindications, particularly G6PD deficiency, are checked before treatment.
How is it administered?
There are several routes and they differ substantially in what they are used for. Which one applies to you is decided at consultation based on what you are addressing, and you will be told exactly what is planned before anything goes ahead.
How is this different from EBOO?
EBOO circulates a larger volume of blood through a closed external system where it is oxygenated and ozonated before returning. It is a more involved procedure with a different scope. Standard ozone therapy covers a range of simpler routes. Which is appropriate depends on the goal, and the two are not interchangeable.
Will it interact with my medication?
Your full medication list is reviewed at consultation. This matters particularly for anticoagulants and for anything affecting oxidative balance, and it is a reason to bring an accurate list rather than a recollection.
Can it replace my current treatment?
No, and it should not be presented that way. If you have a diagnosed condition under management, ozone is at most something considered alongside that care, in conversation with the physician managing it.
