What is the difference between PRF and PRP?
Both come from your own blood. PRP is spun faster and typically uses an anticoagulant, giving a liquid concentrate that releases its growth factors relatively quickly. PRF is spun more gently with no additives, which leaves a fibrin scaffold that releases growth factors slowly over days. Both are used here, and which suits you depends on the area and the goal.
Is this the 'vampire facial'?
That name generally refers to microneedling combined with PRP or PRF applied to the face. It is a real treatment and it is offered here; the nickname just travelled further than the description did.
Can it really regrow hair?
PRF is used for thinning hair and there is reasonable evidence for improvement in density and thickness where follicles are still active. It cannot restore hair in an area that has been completely bald for years, because there is nothing left to stimulate. Which category you are in is assessable at consultation, and you should expect a straight answer.
How many sessions will I need?
Usually a short series rather than one appointment, with maintenance afterwards. The number depends on the area and what you are treating, and is set out at consultation so you know the full commitment before starting rather than after the first session.
Is there downtime?
Typically minimal. Redness, mild swelling or pinpoint bruising at the treated area is common for a short period, and more so when PRF is combined with microneedling. Specific aftercare is given for your treatment.
Is it safe?
It is derived entirely from your own blood with nothing added, which removes the risk of rejection or allergic reaction to a foreign material. The usual considerations that apply to any injection still apply, which is why history and medication are reviewed first.
